Who this policy belongs to

Canadian Real Estate Daily is not a separate company. There is no incorporation behind it and no other owner. It is published by Thom Van Dycke, a sole proprietorship registered in Manitoba, Canada — the same legal entity behind the Van Dycke consulting practice.

That means the privacy commitments made at thomvandycke.com apply to this publication as well. This page does not replace them; it adds the detail specific to running a daily email — the consent record, the click tracking, and the two service providers involved. Where this page is more specific, it is because it describes what this publication actually does.

Practically: one person is accountable for your data here, and that person answers to the same address and the same email whichever business you reached him through.

What we collect

Your email address, because that is where the brief goes.

Consent evidence: the date and time you subscribed, the IP address the request came from, and the page you subscribed on. CASL puts the burden of proof on the sender, so we keep the proof.

Link clicks. Every link in an issue routes through go.canadianrealestatedaily.ca, which records the issue, the section, the destination, your browser's user-agent string, and a one-way hash of your IP address. The IP itself is never stored, and the hash cannot be reversed back into an address.

Open and click data from the email itself, recorded by our email provider.

That is the complete list. We do not collect your name, phone number, brokerage, location, or anything else you have not typed into a form on this site.

Cookies

The public pages of this site set no cookies at all. There is no analytics script, no advertising pixel, no consent banner, and no request to any third-party server — not even for fonts, which are served from our own domain for exactly this reason. The only cookie this site can set is a login session for the publisher's own admin area.

Who else touches your data

Two service providers process data on our behalf. MailerLite delivers the email and stores your address and consent record. Cloudflare hosts the site and runs the click tracking. Both act on our instructions only and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.

Beyond those two, nobody. The list is never sold, never rented, and never shared. Sponsors receive aggregate click counts — how many people clicked their link — and never anything that identifies a reader.

Consent, and getting out

You get the brief because you asked for it. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link in its footer. One click and you are off, permanently, with no confirmation step and no retention email. If it ever fails, reply to any issue and it gets done by hand.

New subscriptions are confirmed: after you enter your address we send one email asking you to confirm. If you do not confirm, you are not added.

How long we keep it

Your subscription record lasts as long as you are subscribed. Unsubscribe and the address is removed from the sending list; we keep a suppression record so we do not accidentally add you again, which is the only reason to hold it.

Click records are kept for reporting to sponsors and are not tied to your name or address — only to a hashed IP.

Your rights

Ask what we hold about you and we will tell you. Ask us to correct it, export it, or delete it and we will. This applies to everyone who writes to us, not only to residents of jurisdictions that require it — residents of Canada, the EU and EEA, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Nevada have these rights in law, and we extend them to everyone because drawing a map of who deserves privacy is a poor way to run a mailing list.

Security

The site is served over TLS. We collect as little as possible, which is the most effective safeguard available. Access to subscriber data is limited to the publisher.
